Water, Sanitation and Hygiene

The WASH programs carried out by the UPO include providing water supply for the most vulnerable population affected by conflicts, rehabilitation and installation of hand pumps, solar systems, operation and maintenance. Sanitation includes Community Led Total Sanitation (CLTS), CAT waste management and disposals, environment, jerry can distribution. Hygiene includes hygiene education, public awareness raising, and cleaning campaigns and leaflets distribution at public institution. Since the establishment of the organization, the UPO has rehabilitated 50 water points in Sudan, reached 280,000 community individuals with CLTS, CAT and hygienic approach in Darfur and Eastern Sudan that worth US$ 3.77 million. About 20,000 jerry cans been distributed to the most vulnerable IDPs to help them fetch clean water from the source and keep their wealth of health. UPO health program focuses on both soft and hard components of health including provision of medical equipment, construction and rehabilitation of health clinic /centres in many rural areas and PHCs in Darfur and Eastern Sudan. UPO has undertaken a number of nutrition projects that aim to reduce malnutrition rates and address the causes of El- Nino impacts. Since the inception of the organization, UPO has spent USD 3.7 million in the health and nutrition sectors in Sudan in the last 4 years. Our services reached more than 160,000 infants, women and communities affected by conflict and acute malnutrition services.

Our water program involve both emergency and development interventions. Its include: provision of water supply in the underserved population: the key activities include co installation and rehabilitation of water yard , boreholes, hand pumps, construction of Hafir and dumps, solar systems, operation and maintenance.

Our sanitation program includes; Community Led Total Sanitation CLTS, CAT, latrine constructions, training hygiene promoters, waste management and disposals, environment, jerry can distribution.

The Hygiene includes; hygiene education, public awareness raising, and cleaning campaigns and leaflets distribution at public institution.

UPO has constructed and rehabilitated 35 water points in Darfur and Eastern Sudan, reached 190,000 with beneficiaries. 15,000 communal and household shared latrines benefiting 120,000 persons. Around 700,000 peoples were have benefited from UPO awareness sessions on sanitations and hygienic approach in Darfur and Eastern Sudan. About 30,000 jerry cans been distributed to the most vulnerable IDPs to help them fetch clean water from the source and keep their wealth of health.

Food security and livelihood

The UPOs interventions in relation to food security and livelihood focus on providing emergency agriculture seeds, tools distribution for small scale farmers, livestock, animal feeding, vocational training, income generation activities for the most vulnerable families, restocking, fuel efficient stoves, etc . Since the inception of the UPO , the organization has reached almost 240,000 affected and vulnerable individuals with FSL services across Darfur that are worth almost $US 6.2 million. Food security and livelihood projects carried out by the UPO aim to provide emergency livelihood starting kits, vocational trainings, IGAs, and entrepreneurships for the most vulnerable populations. This includes at-risk youths, women and people with special needs in IDPs and rural communities.

Food Security and Livelihood (FSL),

UPO focuses on ( FSL) cluster mainly through provision of both emergency and recovery through the provision of emergency livelihood starting kits, vocational trainings, IGAs, entrepreneurships for the most vulnerable populations including at-risk youths, women and people with special needs in IDPs and rural communities. Since the inception of organization UPO has reached almost 170,000 most affected and vulnerable persons with FSL services across Darfur that worth almost $US 2.1 million.

 UPO seeks to promote peace and development amongst the communities of Sudan.
