Women and youth empowerment program:

The UPOs empowerment programs have formed women organized business groups to be trained in business management skills to be able to manage their projects in the future. The UPO also focuses on mobilizing community savings to build indigenous capital and promote access to financial services training and encouraging community members to manage savings and credit themselves. In addition, the UPO promotes (Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training); provide IGAs, short and long-term jobs creation, and youth employment opportunities. The UPO provide self-help skills like, promoting women awareness on gender equity, provision of income generation activities to build women and family resilience, psychosocial supports, and creating child community based protection networks. These progrmas have helped women protect themselves and their children from abuses & exploitations – hence granting them the opportunity to achieve fundamental rights like participation in the socio-economic and political activities. In addition, the UPO also advocates against FGM, women rights, GBV, inequality and sexual exploitation of women and young girls.

UPO has provided capacity building supports to more 150 CSOs and CBOs in managerial , financial and fundraising issues as well as advocacy work to help women and youth engage in dialogue with government officials to address the most pressing needs and challenges facing their communities.

As part of women empowerment and community, based protection projects, UPO has established and strengthened the capacity of more than 89 women and youth groups and associations on social changes and advocacy related work. In addition to that, many centres for youth and women have been constructed to enable the youth exchange their ideas. More than 180,000female have benefited from our services.

UPO livelihood initiatives; include a need assessment study to identify income-development opportunities and possible value chain links, establishment and training of women Savings and Credit Associations/Groups (SCAs), on management of savings and credit, provision of seed capital (loan fund) to SCAs. UPO also form organized business groups to be trained in business management skills to be able to manage their projects in future. UPO also focus on mobilizing community savings to build indigenous capital and promote access to financial services training and encouraging community members to manage savings and credit themselves. UPO promotes (Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training); provide IGAs, short and long-term jobs creation, youth employment opportunities.

These helped women to protect themselves and their children from abuses & exploitations – hence granting them the opportunity to achieving fundamental rights like participation in the socio-economic and political activities.
UPO supported women to collectively implement small business enterprises and increase their confidence, skills and control over income and assets. This helped to promote women’s leadership and entrepreneurship, particularly in improved earning livelihood roles. Beside these, UPO also advocates against FGM, women rights, GBV, inequality and sexual exploitation of women and young girls.
